Jan’s approach to painting is very straightforward. He simply attempts to create beautiful, unique art to enhance both the surroundings and lives of his viewers. His paintings reflect three major influences. The first is Mid-Century and Contemporary Architecture for its clean lines, originality, and non-conformity. The second is Asian art, particularly the Zen minimalism, fully compatible and complimentary to Mid-Century design. Jan says: “I’m a huge jazz fan, my third influence. To me, abstract art is jazz on canvas. It is limitless, without boundaries; it is free form, and open for creative riffs.”
Jan uses heavy textures combined with metallic and high gloss paints. The results are interesting surfaces that change in appearance as the room lighting changes throughout the day creating interest, conversation and enjoyment.
