“A Love Letter to Nature in Chicago” is Rine Boyer’s thoughtful reflection on her own relationship to the critters in the city. Through Boyer’s painted monochrome figures overlaid with repeated motifs, Boyer acknowledges the insects and wild animals that are woven throughout the city. The figures in her work are inspired by the people she sees in everyday life.

Boyer’s exhibition statement is a full love letter to nature in Chicago. “Chicago, the more time I spend with you, the more my appreciation for all the critters that live in our skies, streets, and underground tunnels grow……Like the humans, nature seems especially strong in Chicago. I guess we are made of sturdy stuff.” – excerpts from Boyer’s statement.

Rine Boyer’s figures from everyday life explore how we see one another. Using acrylic paint and ink, she creates works that can be two dimensional, three dimensional, or moving. Her works reference the repeating pattern in pointillism, with the flatness and bright colors of street art. The layer of small iconic shapes over the surface of her portraits create her unique style and link the figures to the underlying themes of culture, personality, and group dynamics. She is represented by Elephant Room Gallery in Chicago, Bluerider Art Gallery in Taipei, and Graphite Gallery in New Orleans.
