Jun 28th 2024

At the inaugural exhibition at 2921 N. Clark Street, ACRE Projects presents Zachary Hutchinson: Beauty, beauty, look at you, I wish to God I had it, too. In this solo exhibition, Hutchinson uses imagery culled from her personal collection of snapshots, screenshots, and 6” x 4” printed memes to consider the intimacy of placemaking and explore the body as landscape. Photographs of the lake’s vast body; residue of a landlord’s neglect; a metaphorical portrait of Ross Laycock paired with the artist’s own, preserved in the synthetic kitsch of silicone frames and marked with indelible ink, close the distance between public and domestic space.

Furthering this examination of interior/exterior boundaries, Hutchinson draws on the history of textiles to connect civic space to bodily home. Once again, her source images reappear, this time though, on a larger, softer scale. Lush photographs of Steuben, WI, the town where ACRE’s residency lives, are printed on artist-made quilts. While we most often see pictures hanging on our walls or magnetized to the refrigerator, here, Hutchinson reminds us to envelop ourselves in our favorite memories, our bodies nourished by their warmth.

We invite you to join us for the opening reception on Saturday, June 28th from 5-9 pm or during gallery open hours on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12-4pm and by appointment.
