In Here Out There is composed of nine artists who are bridging the gaps between the body, spirit, home, and landscape through imagery and materials personal to them. One of their work’s greatest commonalities lies within a certain in-betweenness of these subjects. Through these artists the landscape erodes into body, the interior collapses into exterior, and material accumulates into architecture.
There is a sense of flux to these works. They defy rigid definitions of form and
function, creating a space that the viewer can enter and explore. The gallery slips into a bedroom floor, a grassy plain, a family portrait, a past trauma, and a loved one’s embrace. The viewer is instilled with a sense of familiarity and connection, while having to contend with the discomfort, dislocation, and rootlessness that surrounds them. With sources ranging from memory, archive, myth, and fantasy; their work reflects the complicated histories that fill the space between these dissolving fields.
Incorporating painting, ceramics, textiles, plastics, found objects, and many other materials and processes; In Here Out There creates a level of instability through its constant material shifting. We invite you to explore the difference, to consider the space in between, to feel the internal landscapes within you.
