Blackness is a chameleon. In ways micro and macro. In ways personal and societal. ingress asks how we enter an afro future; years from now and in the now? Is it possible to find that future in the present moment together?

About Carissa Lee

Carissa Lee is a Chicago and Los Angeles based artist that works in performance, sound, public intervention, interactive workshops, video, writing and theater. She uses recordings, voice, found objects, symbols and Black southern culture (that includes medical histories, familial stories, music and spiritual practices) to materialize experiences of grief, isolation and strength. Afrofuturist inspired, her work synthesizes desires for an empathetic tomorrow that holds compassion. In addition to being an artist she is a passionate teacher who has worked with theaters and non profits across Los Angeles—helping students of all ages use their lived experience to make performances. She received her BFA in theater from NYU And MFA in Studio Art with focus in performance from the School of the Art institute Chicago. She is a member of the Suspended Culture art collective. She has exhibited and screened work in Los Angeles CA, New York NY, Chicago IL, and Quebec City Canada.
