Emily Shopp is a Chicago-based print artist working with copper etching, woodcut relief printing, and collage. Having engaged with nature to cope with her own anxiety, her work explores the human psychological relationship to the natural environment. Beginning with the collection and study of found organic objects, she translates them into abstracted, ambiguous forms. Through variation, repetition, transparency, and intricate line work, she constructs an intimate, meditative space.
Shopp received her BFA in Printmaking and Painting from Stephen F Austin State University in 2013, and completed a studio fellowship at Spudnik Press Cooperative in 2018.She has exhibited work at galleries including Kai Lin Art (Atlanta, GA), Cade Art Gallery (Arnold,MD), Spudnik Press Cooperative (Chicago, IL), Chicago Printmakers Collaborative (Chicago, IL), and Fulton Street Collective (Chicago, IL). She has been featured in New York Magazine’s The Cut and Saatchi Art’s Canvas. She recently exhibited at The Other Art Fair in Chicago, IL and in Brooklyn, NY. She currently lives and works in Chicago, IL.
[ salonlb. ] is a multidisciplinary exhibition space and forum designed to engage critically with the arts, supporting emerging and mid-career artists, with an emphasis on sculpture, mixed-media, and contemporary craft.
