Amay Kataria: Supersynthesis

@ MuGallery

1541 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60642

Opening Friday, March 11th, from 6PM - 10PM

On view through Friday, April 1st

MuGallery Chicago presents the opening reception for Supersynthesis – a new interactive audio-visual art installation developed by Amay Kataria. Alongside this work, Chicago based artist Sal Moreno will deliver an eclectic performance.

Supersynthesis is an interactive audio-visual public art installation that invites people to create a space for collective expression and participation. Accompanied with a physical installation, it utilizes the medium of light and sound to craft a communal experience where the audience activates the piece and the space around it by interacting with it through an online interface (www.supersynthesis.art). Every audience response is blended into the previous response, thus synthesizing a progressively evolving wave of experience.

Amay Kataria is a new-media artist, who’s practice employs an experimental yet process-based, open-ended approach towards cultural production with industrial technology. By leveraging custom software, three-dimensional modelling, and network architecture as his mediums of construction, he creates interactive interventions, installations, and creative systems that superimpose digital production onto an analog reality or vice-versa. He holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and was previously a new-media resident at Art Center Nabi and Mana Contemporary.

Sal Moreno (he/him) is an interdisciplinary artist based in Chicago who engages with computation, sound, performance, and new media. Sal experiments with free-drumming and emerging technology to dismantle the regimented traditions of marching band and its origins in Western militaristic and music ideologies. He has shown work at Ars Electronica, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Mana Contemporary, and virtual platforms. Sal recently received the 2021 Excellency in New Media Award by the New Media Caucus. He is an instructor at Northeastern Illinois University in the Art + Design Department, and serves as Arts Technology Coordinator for Chicago Public Schools in the Arts Education Department.
