Artist and writer Lily Scherlis presents Pool Party, a performance lecture about friendship and swimming pools, and about how friendship does and doesn’t live up to its idealizations in contemporary capitalism. It features material from the television show BoJack Horseman, recent in-depth interviews conducted by the artist, stock imagery and original animations.

All attendees in person must show one of the following to be admitted: proof of COVID-19 vaccination (vaccine card or photo of vaccine card); documented negative result from a COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of the event; or a current University of Chicago I.D. card.

Lily Scherlis’s work deals with character, personality, and power in contemporary U.S. culture. Her writing has been published in Cabinet, Post45 Contemporaries, Avidly, Harvard Review, and Jacket2, and is forthcoming in Guernica. Her work has been shown at the Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts and featured in programming at the Smart Museum of Art. She is a PhD student in English and Theater & Performance Studies at the University of Chicago.
