Matt Bodett: For Fear
@ High Concept Labs
2233 S Throop St, Chicago, IL 60608
Opening Monday, December 2nd, from 7PM - 8:30PM
December 2nd you’re invited to attend a preview event which will premier a new performance piece, exhibit works completed this year, and share documentation of international works.
This event will highlight several large scale monotypes Matt Bodett completed as a 3Arts Fellow at the MacDowell Colony in May. This preview will be the first time that these works have been displayed publicly and will be the first opportunity to see the large scale prints as one set. Other works completed throughout the year will be available to view, including new sculptures, a table of written works, and video segments from performances overseas.
As an incubator artist at HCL, Matt has been honing performances as well as developing new ones. This evening will be the premiere of “For Fear”, a thirty-minute performance which confronts the notion of hearing voices. Utilizing text from the Joan of Arc trial in conjunction with personal experiences, Bodett will be questioning dominant cultural judgements and those who make them.
Following the performance Matt will take a moment to introduce his new project which will be unveiled in the Fall of 2021. “Of Exceptions” is a monumental project which will bring together many of Chicago’s communities under one roof with events around disability culture, mental health, storytelling, and empowerment spreading out over two months. The centerpiece of these events will be a painting which will serve as a cultural moment in Chicago. Don’t miss this exciting announcement and the chance to hear how the collaboration with Epiphany Center for the Arts will make new waves in local and global discussions.
The evening begins at 7:00pm. Audience members are encouraged to arrive before the performance begins.
