In the four decades since Gary Tinterow interned at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, much has changed. For one, Tinterow is now the director of that museum, following a celebrated 28-year stint at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. For another, many museum leaders are increasingly focused on making their institutions more diverse, inclusive, and accessible. Tinterow has been a driver of these changes, rethinking everything from exhibitions to infrastructure and even signage. In conversation with Angelique Power, president of the Field Foundation, Tinterow will discuss his mission to make our cultural institutions spaces that “don’t just mirror what we already know, but instead expose us to new ideas, new cultures, and new works of art.”
This program is presented in partnership with the Dolores Kohl Education Foundation and the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.
