Venue: SAIC Columbus Dr., Room 109
Curated by Aleksandra Matic
In response to the SAIC Art History Course, “India, Women and Visual Culture” taught by Dr. Arshiya Lokhandwala

Artistic agency is a powerful weapon which may be deployed to dismantle binaries, subvert stigma, and rupture prejudice. Our own paths of exploration might interrogate politics, religion, and sexuality, or address the universality of the human experience. “Coming into Being” brings together nine visual artists working in various media to explore questions of identity and the “othered” body using post-colonial theory. Presented in conjunction with SAIC’s summer course “India, Women and Visual Culture” taught by Dr. Arshiya Lokhandwala, this collective body of work challenges conventions and investigates the politics of self through both a global and local lens.
