This month we are featuring the art work of Erin LeAnn Works for a solo exhibition: Kinship.
Erin is our former beloved resident artist and we are so excited to celebrate her new body of work that continues to inspire and uplift black women and women of color!
Originating from Birmingham, AL, Erin Mitchell moved to Chicago in 2007 to pursue her passion for art at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2011. Her interest in teaching and continued passion for art led Mitchell to Columbia College Chicago, where she graduated with her Master of Arts in Art Education in 2016. Mitchell has worked with Chicago youth in Chicago Public Schools and non-profit organizations throughout the city, showing work and facilitating programing. As a former resident artist of AMFM Gallery in Chicago, IL, Mitchell exhibited her solo show, “Black Sauce” featuring works centered in black portraiture.
About Art First Fridays:
Art First Fridays in Pilsen is a collaborative effort initiated by Pilsen Outpost, Hoofprint Workshop & Cobalt Studio. We have come together to create an art walk in a part of Chicago’s Pilsen neighborhood that is not regularly explored. With the cluster of creative spaces, galleries and studios spread out within the boundaries of Ashland Ave, Western Ave, Blue Island Ave, and 18th St, we were motivated to invite the community and others from around the city to explore the hidden art gems in Pilsen.
Every First Friday of the month there will be a combination of gallery show openings, open studios, and special creative events at each location.
We welcome all to explore, meet, and friend the creative folks that make up this art filled community we live in.
