“What’s left is palimpsest,
one memory bleeding into another,
overwriting it.”
-Natasha Trethewey
In this group show, we pay attention to the ephemeral and the fleeting. Bringing together artists from the UK and US, this show will explore the ways in which our personal histories and intergenerational relationships are integral to the formations of newer and more radical intimacies with the self. These artists thicken, spread and sift the multiple layers of memory, family, aging, and genealogical delineations, which make up our every day and overarching social narratives.
These are the moments that haunt us. We are haunting them.
The evening will negotiate the ways in which the palimpsest builds up experiences, traces, and layers. To write. To write again. To overwrite. The palimpsest creates textures of time that are continuously traced, allowing for us to think of writing and art-making as an accumulative and living draft.
Artists exhibiting include:
Ellen Agnus, Yasmina Aoun, Caroline Dahlberg, Qila Gill, Soraya Fatha, Tammy Hopper, Chin-Ting Huang, Caroline McCraw, Solomon Salim Moore, Tannaz Motevalli, Marie Ségolène, Julia Sharpe, Cherrie Yu and Katie Wood
