Chicago Zine Fest 2017: Friday Night Panel Discussion and Reading
@ Co-Prosperity Sphere
3219 S Morgan, Chicago, IL 60608
Opening Friday, May 5th, from 6:30PM - 10:30PM
The Chicago Zine Fest blooms this spring for its eighth year of celebrating the spirit of self-publishing. The festival is planned for the weekend of Friday May 5th and Saturday May 6th with free workshops, discussions, readings and access one of largest exhibitions of self-publishers in the country.
The weekend kicks off Friday May 5th at 6:30pm with a panel discussion sponsored by the University of Chicago Library entitled Tools of Survival: Using Zines for Self-Care. This panel welcomes self publishers, librarian zinester JC from Washington, DC; manga artist Rinko Endo from Japan; and Chicago comics artist Kevin Budnik; moderated by School of Life Design co-founder Kelly Cree. Panelists publish work to help them cope and overcome complex life and community issues. Our panel includes members of the self-publishing community that have been publishing work for years that shares their experiences and processes with readers. Panelists will discuss their own work as well as work that has influenced them. There will be a Q&A to follow the panel.
This will be followed at 8pm by a reading of zine creators exhibiting at this year’s festival. CZF readings are from the heart as entertaining as they are moving, leaving audiences a great end to the night. All Friday events will be held at Co-Prosperity Sphere in Bridgeport, 3219 S Morgan St.
