Sometimes you just can’t get away. Maybe you don’t have enough time and money to plan some big, crazy last-minute vacation, or maybe you don’t have the days off. But surely you can find time to enjoy yourself. Heck there maybe even a pool. Good thing we live in Chicago.

In Carmen Chapparro’s painting and drawings narrative recedes like a sunset over the Dan Rynan Express Way. Her sybaritic world of pools, manicures, tans, pina coladas and sandals will have you reaching for an ice cold drink. They are a fusion of quirky that and comedic with the casual nature of a conversation. Her process could be likened to that of people watching at the pool, but such reportage skates a line between outsider and insider.
Alex Calamos is the first kid jumping in the pool. The bad boy running through the motel causing havoc in the name of fun. Calamos asks you, his new partner in crime to come join him, in a fort jubilation to rock out to Terry Riley, meditating, and marauding the suburbs just for fun. Subplots. narratives, structures and supports resembles the way in which we come of age.

We would like to extend you a spot in our staycation, we have a beer with your name on it.
