Danielle Chenette: Your Future Family
@ The Peanut Gallery
1000 N. California Ave.
Opening Friday, August 30th, from 6PM - 9PM
On view through Friday, August 30th
To culminate Danielle Chenette’s stint as Autotelic’s first artist-in-residence, we would like to present her for her first, well deserved solo-exhibition!
We’ve partnered with local arts co-op/venue Peanut Gallery to put on a ONE-NIGHT-ONLY event, so we’re going to make it count. Danielle undeniably embodies the autotelic mind-set and her studio practice demonstrates an unmitigated commitment to making work true to her craft.
“In this body of work, my paintings explore the territory between the highly disciplined tradition of painted portraiture and the contemporary, boundary-less aesthetic of comic culture in Chicago. Inspired by the likes of Norman Rockwell, Fauvism, and Gary Panter, this series relies on color relationships to deliver feeling and depth rather than relying on the imagery itself. My work dwells on the concept of “family photo” nostalgia and revisiting the quickly disappearing tradition that is the painted portrait.”
Your Future Family is sponsored by Revolution Brewing , who has graciously donated a few cases of beer in support of Danielle’s work and the Autotelic mission. This event is free and open to the public. T-shirts (designed and printed by Danielle) and Autotelic “zippos” will be on sale to support the Autotelic artists and future artists-in-residence.
