The Soccer Club Club and is pleased to announce Wane’s World: A History of “Things”, an upcoming solo exhibition with California artist Becca Mann. The opening reception for Wane’s World: A History of “Things” will be celebrated with a special performance by the Chicago band Running, and co-hosted by Land and Sea Dept. The event is free and open to the public.

Making paintings and drawings from photographs, applying a series of editing and transcribing strategies to work towards a sublimated analogue of the original image; Becca Mann selects images in an attempt to create a dialog between certain motifs–visual tropes that point to touchstones in human experience and time. In the past, she worked mainly with historical subjects that spoke to moments of great cultural transition. For this exhibition, she is interested in the universality of certain images as symbols or possible archetypes; focusing on objects in presentational spaces, in order to discuss the relationship between a thing, its context within the frame of the photograph and its very different meaning as a painting or drawing.

Becca Mann (born Los Angeles, CA 1980) is a painter living and working in Venice, CA. She graduated with a degree in Visual Critical Studies, and a BFA in painting, both from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Her work has been exhibited in Los Angeles and Chicago. She is the co-founder of Okla Press.

Running is a Chicago trio that plays post/art/psych-punk flavored music and present a breathless, limbs-flying-in-every-direction kind of live experience. Voted “best packaging” in the Chicago Reader for their 2012 Captcha release, Asshole Savant, the scum-rock trio will be the perfect complement for Wane’s World: A History of “Things”

Land and Sea Dept. is a concept and project development organization, cohesively and creatively working across disciplines. Its principles have collective decades of involvement in the fields of art, construction, design, event production, identity, marketing, music and woodworking, experiences that have given them an expansive knowledge base to draw upon.

The Soccer Club Club is a gallery space on the Northwest side of Chicago, curated and maintained by Drag City.
