Juliana Castro Duperly, video and sound artist interested in language as a performative act.

Video, sound, and words are plastic media capable of constructing and deconstructing meaning. This duality has forced her to think of her practice as a flexible and fluid place, where language can be perceived as an experience and not as an operational matter. Taking her work to places of vulnerability forces her to have an openness that tends to search for that moment that exists before articulation. She has shown her work in Sónar Bogotá, Mutek.co, Festival Domo Lleno, VANSA, Elastic Arts, ESS, and Ars Electronica.

Ariella Granados is a multidisciplinary artist based in Chicago, IL. whose work utilizes video, sound, costuming, make up, and sculpture to explore the liminal space between fiction and truth. Their work integrates green as a signifier of rendering the disabled body against the complexity of the sociopolitical landscape. Granados’ work is intertwined with the consumer’s inability to not be fully satisfied with the consumption of commodities. Utilizing dynamic world building techniques they critique the body as a commodity itself, offering her own lived experience as a bicultural person. Through their work, Granados invites the viewer into a world where they must confront questions of agency and authenticity.

Granados holds a BFA from The University of Illinois at Chicago. They are a current 3Arts/Bodies of Work Residency artist and an inaugural artist in residence with DCASE and The Mayors Office for People with Disabilities.

About Experimental Sound Studio

Founded in 1986 by Dawn and Lou Mallozzi, Eric Leonardson, and Perry Venson, Experimental Sound Studio (ESS) has occupied its Edgewater location since 2006. The facility is home to a full-service recording, mixing, and mastering studio for hire; Audible Gallery, a small public space for exhibitions, meetings, workshops, performances, and artists’ projects; and the Creative Audio Archive—an invaluable collection of recordings, print, and visual ephemera related to avant-garde and exploratory sound and music of the last five decades. ESS presents eclectic performance and installation programming, workshops, and artist talks year round—both in the various spaces around the studio (including its beautiful garden) and at various partner venues around Chicago.

About Artist Run Chicago Fund

Initiated during the challenging years of the COVID-19 outbreak, the ARC Fund has created breathing room for artist-run projects to continue to innovate and thrive. The grants have increased the platforms’ capacity to pay artists to make new work, hire staff, build residency programs that attract visiting artists to the region, and invest in socially engaged practices.

For over two decades, Hyde Park Art Center has been an ally for independent art spaces. The Art Center presented the first Artist Run Chicago exhibition in 2009 with contributions from 40 spaces in existence between 1999 and 2009. Our 2020 exhibition Artists Run Chicago 2.0 celebrated the work of fifty current artist-run spaces that fuel Chicago’s independent art scene. The Artists Run Chicago Fund was an evolution of this work.
