∆ Melon Sprout uses ceramic instruments to extend their body physically and sonically. Material and body become a tangible space for the ephemeral. “Ceramusic” – a word for Melon’s ceramic music – encourages viewers to activate, interact with, and extend themselves physically and sonically in the form of ceramic music-making. Their ceramic instruments retain physical traces of the ceramic’s original soft clay state, and the instruments go through many transitions as functional and aesthetic art objects. Sprout’s ceramic instruments are performed, climbed, spun, recorded, edited, and altered. The ceramic instruments become a conduit of reciprocity, and offer non-linguistic communication in order to develop an animated environment where feelings and ideas are free to exchange.

∆ Grace DeVies (He/Him) (b.1999) is a queer trans*sexual performance artist and curator based in Chicago working to demonstrate queer trans* intimacy. Driven to dismantle and transcend oppressive binaries, he threatens these institutions through practicing gender fuckery and displaying, confusing, or eliminating power dynamics. DeVies finds inspiration in the hol(e)y, in continuity, and in practices of kink and risk-aware informed consent, creating art to serve as an act of love, a religious experience, and an ephemeral happening. DeVies has performed live at MANA Contemporary, Oh!klahomo, TriTriangle, and Dispatch Gallery, and has curated live performance events at NoNation Art Lab and Comfort Station.

∆ Steph Patsula (CA/US) is a transdisciplinary artist best known for their work investigating the dynamic between autonomy and intimacy within human and non-human relationships. Patsula’s research is grounded in live performance, which embraces the unpredictable dynamics of working with materials, spaces, and bodies via improvisation — a process that reflects a personal desire for mutualism through attentiveness to a range of sensory thresholds. Their performances and installations have been presented at the Experimental Sound Studio (US), Elastic Arts (US), Gallerí Úthverfa / Outvert Art Space (IS), Mile Zero Dance (CA), New Music Edmonton (CA), and Capture Photography Festival (CA), among others.

∆ Loren Ames is a sound artist from New Hampshire. She works primarily with acoustic feedback and sculpture, seeking new ways to embody sound by collapsing the space between input and output. Her work reflects a commitment to “low tech” manipulations of traditional audio technology, a process reliant on creative misuse. She also produces music as a member of Grazen.

∆ Rin Peisert is an interdisciplinary artist who works with bodies, sounds, found objects, and live actions to explore conditions for endurance sincerity. Her site-responsive actions use intervention and deconstruction as tools to reorganize behavior and to exaggerate the quotidian. Peisert’s performance work has been seen at Shanghai Duolun Museum of Modern Art, Power Station of Art Shanghai, The Momentary Museum, and Defibrillator Art Gallery, and as well as street corners, rooftops, a bank vault, a bomb shelter, and a market for arranged marriages. She also co-produces and conducts the graphic score series, Image of Thought and is the Performing Arts Curatorial Artist-in-Residence at Elastic Arts, curating the series, Relative Intensity Noise.

∆ Instinct Control is a project of Ryan ⊥ Dunn primarily utilizing the unintended, soul-salvage of planned obsolescence through direct physical contact with the circuitry of tape players. Instinct Control considers instrumentality, expectations and the musician’s gesture—resisting the implied philosophies of settings, knobs, planned instruments, reveling in chance and dialogue, performing sound with an object that is fickle to changes in environment and performer.
