@ Bridgeport Art Center
1200 W 35th St, Chicago, IL 60609
Opening Friday, May 19th, from 7PM - 10PM
On view through Friday, July 21st
Remembering the 9-5s of artist-architects Robert Bruce Tague and Tristan Meinecke, whose collaboration produced significant residential development in Lincoln Park in the ’60s and ’70s.
Robert Bruce Tague taught at Chicago’s New Bauhaus (now IIT) and, as a visual artist, cultivated a style of abstraction heavily informed by architectural techniques.
Tristan Meinecke, who learned architecture on the job, is best known for his cantankerous personality and a portfolio of visual art that spans cubism, abstract expressionism, and surrealism.
The exhibition features architectural plans from Meinecke Studio, airbrush collages by Meinecke (1980s), examples of Tague’s Bauhasian abstraction, and never-before-exhibited ephemera from Tague and Meinecke’s personal and professional lives.
