Join us as we celebrate the closing of our wonderful visual gallery exhibition Sign of Cipactli from Rubin J. Davila! We’ll have music from cumbia band Los Xhavis and a performance from artist Fabrizzio Subia accompanied by Victoria Boateng. It will be a beautiful night! Join us!

Artist Bios

Los Xhavis – Hailing from Guerrero, Mexico, band members Rutilo, Jesús, Víctor and Javier met in Chicago’s North Side and formed Los Xhavis. Los Xhavis is known for their large repertoire interpreting a variety of Latin American rhythms including cumbias, bachatas, rancheras, corridos, boleros and huapangos. Over the course of their decade-long career, Los Xhavis has performed at countless public and private events, and love to get people dancing!

Fabrizzio Subia is a Chicago-based performance artist and poet from Guayaquil, Ecuador. His work has been exhibited throughout Chicago including the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Chicago Art Department, 6018 North Gallery, P.O. Box Collective, The Story Collider, The Green Mill, and more. He received his BFA in Performance from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2020. He is a Resident at Chicago Art Department, and a member of radical art collective P.O. Box Collective. Currently, he acts as Assistant Manager of Exhibitions and Development at the International Museum of Surgical Science.

Victoria Boateng is djembe percussionist and autism advocate. Victoria was diagnosed with autism when she was three years old and couldn’t speak until she was 7 years old. Victoria uses her gift of djembe to inspire the autism community and women of all races, gender, and creed. Victoria graduated from Western Illinois University in December 2012 with a bachelor’s degree in communication and minor in theater. After graduation, Victoria Boateng studied West African drumming with master drummer Bolokoda Conde and Michael Taylor. Victoria is now a substitute teacher at Old Town School Of Folk Music and drum teacher at Ruth Page Center for the Arts. She is also an apprentice performer/drummer in an all female drum and dance company Ayodele Drum and Dance, She Wolf Sacred Movement, and drum facilitator at Sista Afya.
