“Maternal Perspectives” delves into the complexities, burdens and joys of motherhood through a variety of mediums, including painting, photography, sculpture, and mixed media. From intimate portraits to political statements, these works offer a unique and powerful look at the maternal experience.
“Maternal Perspectives” pushes back against Western art history’s early representations of mothers, which were mostly created by men who disregarded the complexities of what it means to be a mother. The women in this exhibition reclaim representations of the maternal by focusing on their own lived experiences as both artists and mothers.
