“When I start a painting the only thing I know is the size. I usually paint six to ten paintings at once which is probably due to my personality more than anything else. I can’t sit still and I seem to work best right in the middle of all the chaos. My practice as a painter is a balancing act. As I work up layer upon layer of paint my initial goal is to balance color, shape, and texture. Once I feel I’ve accomplished that, I  then focus on one canvas at a time… working and reworking until it all comes together. Until I get it right.”  M.H.
