Lighting, Technique, and a Photographic History of Skin Tone Workshop

LATITUDE is excited to present our first in-person lighting workshop since March of 2020! This class will cover a variety of lighting scenarios and camera techniques that will introduce participants to studio photography that honors different skin tones. The modules will be split in two sessions with a combination of lecture, demonstration and practice. Participants will learn the function and value of the gray/color card, natural and artificial lighting basics, DIY modifiers and tools, intro to set building and prop design, posing and framing techniques to elevate your portraiture and digital workflow. Participants will receive a prompt to be reviewed and discussed in the second session. Equipment and camera settings will be covered along with some additional tips and tricks to better capture your subject. The information and tactics taught in this class can be utilized on any camera whether that be an iphone, film camera or digital camera.
The course breakdown is as follows:
Day 1 (July 26th)

On set basics like camera basics and the history of tonality in photographic films, Shirley cards, exclusionary practices initially established by Kodak and polaroid.

Digital Workflow preparation and lighting scenarios

In-class practice and a take home prompt
Day 2 (August 2nd)

Review of DIY tools and creative set or prop tricks

Posing and framing

Using tools learned and photographing with a model
This class will be meeting at Jon Wes’ Studio at Hubbard Lofts Suite 205 (right next door to Latitude) on July 26th and August 2nd from 6:30pm-8:30pm!

If you need to cancel your reservation for any reason, LATITUDE can provide a 100% refund for cancellations made 10 days prior to the start date of the course. Cancellations made with less than the 10 day notice will be given a 100% lab credit. No refund will be guaranteed for cancellations made on the start day of the course or after and will be considered on a case to case basis.
