Nancy Natow-Cassidy, showing at SFC Gallery, 607 Franklin, is known for her movement and nature-based paintings. Literally moved to dance in nature, her paintings are created when gestures are expressed with pigment, and explore color and shape as energy and vibration. She studies the ever-changing glints of color reflected in water, and seeks to discern the colors held deep within trees, plants, flowers and rocks, looking for the colors that make up the colors that we see. “Color makes me happy ~ I breathe deeper and my heart expands in the presence of color and organic shapes,” she says. These often large-scale works invite the viewer to get up close and personal with them, enveloping the viewer in color and energy. While some of the pieces have an obvious direction, many can be hung vertically or horizontally. Natow-Cassidy says she enjoys the playfulness of looking at them from multiple ways and being open to surprise. She says, “while I often despair at the state of the world, and sometimes make paintings that express those feelings, I try to “be here now” and am filled awe and wonder at the natural world that I have the good fortune to live within.” Her website is
