Baby Blue Gallery is excited to announce the two person exhibition “We are like puzzle pieces that don’t come together”. The show features paintings by Shalen Stephenson and ceramic works by Erin Smith. Their works contain playful forms that mix abstract patterns, geometric shapes, and a funky color palette. Erin’s handmade works are a selection from a larger body of work that track her process of creation and ideation, reminiscing on the various paths in life. Shalen’s paintings abstract imagery borrowed from signage, comics, and graffiti that in turn evokes nostalgia like the experience of walking down patterned carpets of 90’s bowling alleys.

Erin Smith received her BFA in Product Design from Parsons School of Design in New York, and is a 2021 MFA candidate in Ceramics at Alfred University, New York State. Between her degrees, she worked in the field of product design, interior design, event coordination, and as a small business owner. She was a 2018 recipient of the Next Step Grant from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, and received the 2017 Emerging Artist Award from the American Craft Council San Francisco juried craft show. Exhibitions include Walker Art Center, Hair and Nails Gallery, and Soap Factory, Minneapolis MN, Concordia University Gallery, St. Paul, MN, Cooler Gallery, Fredericks & Mae Gallery, Brooklyn, NY, and Center for Contemporary Crafts, Houston, TX.
