Kevin Killian: Spreadeagle
Curated by John Neff
Kevin Killian: Spreadeagle surveys the work of writer, photographer, and performer Kevin Killian in a multi-artist exhibition keyed to the themes and chapters of Killian’s 2012 novel Spreadeagle. Eileen Myles has named Spreadeagle one of the 100 best books of the 21st Century, calling it “both comically droll and ardently, deeply noir.” The exhibition presents work by Killian alongside pieces by his collaborators, inspirations, and friends D-L Alvarez, Eric Bell and Kristoffer Frick, Dodie Bellamy, Elijah Burgher, Jerome Caja, Joe Cassan, Marcel Duchamp, Cliff Hengst, G.B. Jones, Arnold J. Kemp, Man’s Hand Films, Rex Ray, Wayne Smith, Mario García Torres, and Carl Van Vechten. Additional programming TBA.
Kevin Killian, one of the original “New Narrative” writers, has written three novels, Shy (1989), Arctic Summer (1997), and Spreadeagle (2012), three books of stories, and four books of poetry, most recently Tweaky Village from Wonder Books. Forthcoming projects include a volume of memoirs, Fascination, edited by Andrew Durbin, due in November from Semiotexte; and Stage Fright: Plays from San Francisco Poets Theater, from Kenning Editions in Chicago (in February 2019). He teaches writing to MFA students at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
