Preserving Protest
@ Newberry Library
60 West Walton St., Chicago, IL 60610
Opening Thursday, February 22nd, from 5:30PM - 8PM
From the 1886 Haymarket Affair to the 1968 Democratic National Convention to the 2017 Women’s March, the Newberry has consistently gathered ephemeral evidence of turbulent times: signs, pamphlets, clothing, images, buttons, and more.
Join Newberry staff as we share the stories of how and why these items went from the streets to the library vaults. You can also learn how to donate your own protest objects to contribute to the ongoing American narrative in the Newberry’s Chicago Protest Collection.
This special event is part of the Newberry’s Next Chapter membership program. Next Chapter is for the next generation of Newberry supporters age 21-45 that aims to be both intellectually serious and seriously fun. Membership is $50 for one year. Next Chapter members receive two free or discounted tickets to all Next Chapter events plus all the benefits of an Authors level membership (a $100 value).
