Three Perspectives on Senga Nengudi’s “Improvisational Gestures”

DPAM Director and Chief Curator Julie Rodrigues Widholm moderates a discussion on Senga Nengudi’s Improvisational Gestures. Artist and poet Krista Franklin, photographer and 2017 McArthur Fellow Dawoud Bey, and Naomi Beckwith, Marilyn and Larry Fields Curator at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, will give presentations followed by a conversation. The panelists will address various aspects of Nengudi’s practice including her poetry and written works, her involvement in New York’s Black art community in the 1980s, and her approach to working with performance and ritual.
