Opening Saturday, May 14th, from 6PM - 9PM

On view through Sunday, May 15th

Fat City is excited to announce My Summit Is Out Of Reach, a solo exhibition by Matty Davis that will include performances by BOOMERANG, a daringly physical, poetically-nuanced dance and performance project based in New York that Davis co-founded with choreographer Kora Radella and performer/musician Adrian Galvin.

Anchored by its own weight, and impelled by biological necessity and a desire for meaning, our bodies plow forward and onward through time, colliding, emitting, being transformed. . . They collaborate with other people and their bodies, with the land, with materials, each imposing its own demands and revealing both our limits and what remains to be charted. Where we end up exactly, and how we make sense of the emanations of our efforts, however, might already be buried in our bones, writ within our hands, circulating in our blood.

Matty Davis (b. 1989) is visual artist, dancer (BOOMERANG), and athlete from the suburbs of Pittsburgh. His work mines the immediacy and potential of a living, breathing, moving body,—the visceral body,—and explores it as a malleable site of growth, destruction, mapping, and meaning-making. Currently, his research involves journey-based performances that run the gamut of sculpture, drawing, and film. In 2012, Davis co-founded (and continues to co-artistic direct) BOOMERANG, a dance and performance project hailed as the “punk Mozarts of dance” and which will make its European premiere in Paris in June 2016 at the invitation of Robert Wilson. Davis has presented his work and performed throughout the US, including at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Watermill Center, Judson Church, the United Nations, and in Performa 13 (with Guido van der Werve and Pedro Gómez-Egaña) and Performa 15 (with Francesco Vezzoli and ballet legend David Hallberg). In 2015, he was selected as one of 80 artists internationally to work with Robert Wilson as part of the Watermill Center’s International Summer Program, and is a recipient of a 2016 Visual Arts Fellowship from the Edward F. Albee Foundation in New York. He has studied at Kenyon College, Anne Teresa de Keersmaeker’s P.A.R.T.S., the American Dance Festival, and recently completed his MFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. www.mattywdavis.com andwww.boomerangdance.com

The performance will take place in the back yard at 7:45pm.
