{"id":159944,"date":"2024-05-24T07:16:48","date_gmt":"2024-05-24T12:16:48","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thevisualist.org\/?p=159944"},"modified":"2024-04-28T07:23:34","modified_gmt":"2024-04-28T12:23:34","slug":"captured-earth","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thevisualist.org\/2024\/05\/captured-earth\/","title":{"rendered":"Captured Earth"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em>Captured\u00a0Earth<\/em>\u00a0presents works by artists who create works in photography and installation that use elements from nature to explore place, ecology, and the material and mystical qualities of the land.\u00a0Depictions\u00a0range from site-specific performances, including Tarrah Krajnak\u2019s documentations of her nature-centered rituals using rocks and plant material, and Alan Cohen\u2019s walking meditations on the equator.\u00a0Other artists use natural elements to create experimental process-based works, such as Jeremy Bolen\u2019s prints produced from film developed in a polluted river or Barbara Crane\u2019s photographic transfers of tree bark, leaves, and fungi she gathered at her Michigan cabin retreat. Others attempt to convey things so confounding that they cannot be contained in an image, such as Penelope Umbrico\u2019s\u00a0<em>8,146,774 Suns From Flickr (Partial) 9\/10\/10<\/em>, that presents an assemblage of photographs of sunsets from one day found on a photo sharing website to underscore the universal human attraction to capture the sun\u2019s essence. Collectively, the exhibition shows ways artists grapple with creating visual language to express their connection to the\u00a0earth\u00a0and its magnitude.<\/p>\n<p>Featuring works by: Karl Blossfeldt, Jeremy Bolen, Alan Cohen, Antonia Contro with\u00a0sound design\u00a0Lou Mallozzi, Barbara Crane, Odette England, Whit Forrester, Bertha E.
