@ East Room

2354 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647

Opening Thursday, November 8th, from 9PM - 2AM

On view through Thursday, November 8th

Chicago-based artists Meghan Borah and Omar Velazquez invite a number of artists to perform alongside their music-influenced artworks throughout the night.

Featuring performances by:

TURPENOID: Turpenoid, founded in 2013, is a band comprised of a rotating line-up of artists bridging the gap between painting and music. Started initially as improvised jam sessions at Club Nutzโ€™s drawing parties, Turpenoid discovered parallels connecting the visual creative process with sonic experimentation. TYSON REEDER, SCOTT REEDER, OLIVIA BLANCHARD, and ANDY HALL will be performing.

ARTIST STATEMENT: Artist Statement is OMAR VELAZQUEZ and BRYANT WORLEY.

COMMUNIQUE: Communique sounds like the desert. Traversing Utopian peaks and dystopian valleys, the improvisational duo summon sun-warped ambience and kaleidoscopic soundscapes from beyond. ADAM SCOTTโ€™s serpentine guitar lines of interweave with the heavy percussive grooves and buzzing analog synths laid down by JOHN BIGGERS. Comminque opens a window into the soul of spiritual jazz and motorik beat, following a path blazed by Can,ย Alice Coltrane, and Pharaoh Sanders. Earthly noise for astral transmissions.

LAMBDA CELSIUS (ฮ›ยฐC): Musical avatar of AC CARTER: performing artist, musician, producer, and costume designer. AC currently performs as Ana Echo in a karaoke set up in hand-made costumes accompanied by virtual assistant Alexa as the DJ, speaking from a post punk ethos highlighting gender inequality and the passivity of the stereotyped gendered voice.

Live DJ sets by:

SADIE WOODS: Award winning artist, curator, and deejay, Woodsโ€™s practice includes sonic art and sound design, deejay performance, exhibition making, and collaborations within communities of difference. Woodsโ€™s work examines the celebrated voices in pop culture and highlights aspirations and struggles of cultural experiences encoded in music.

JAMES JORGENSON: A mixture of World, House, Jazz, and Disco sounds by James Jorgenson
