After a critically acclaimed run in New York, Atlas Obscura is bringing Into the Veil to Chicago’s historic Graceland Cemetery. On the first night of fall, join us for an ethereal evening of interactive performance, live music, and visual storytelling. Chase a single flickering light or follow the distant sound of a bell deep into the hallowed grounds to discover “surprise followed by surprise,” as the New York Times has described it.
Every guest will experience Into the Veil differently. With only your curiosity to guide you, you’ll wander the cemetery’s candlelit pathways to find dozens of intimate experiences hidden among the mausoleums, crypts, and headstones.

ABOUT GRACELAND CEMETERY
Founded in 1860, Graceland Cemetery was designed as a space of rest and reflection for both the living and the dead. A park-like oasis and active arboretum, Graceland’s bucolic grounds feature winding pathways, beautiful greenery, and awe-inspiring monuments and mausoleums built by some of the greatest architects of the 19th and 20th centuries for some of Chicago’s most iconic figures. It offers visitors the unique opportunity to explore the past and present while contemplating the veil between life and the afterlife.
ADDITIONAL DETAILS
• This event is strictly 21+; I.D. required. Cash bars serving a variety of libations will be available onsite.
• Cocktail and vintage attire is encouraged as is sensible footwear; please be mindful that we will be traversing through uneven cemetery grounds after dark.
• Parking will not be allowed on cemetery grounds. We recommend taking public transit such as the CTA red line train, or the Clark Street bus #22. Sheridan is the closest train stop on the CTA red line. The Irving Park bus stop is the closest bus stop to the cemetery entrance. If you do need to drive, there is parking on the streets surrounding Graceland Cemetery such as Montrose, Clark, and Irving Park. Please just be aware of any signs or restrictions for parking in surrounding areas.
