Self-Care for Community Organizers and Activists
@ Olín Studio Chicago
1957 W 23rd St, Chicago, IL 60608
Opening Sunday, August 19th, from 6:30PM - 9PM
Self-Care for Community Organizers and Activists facilitated by Curandera Brenda Salgado.
“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” Audre Lorde, activist and poet.
Caring and organizing for others in our community is a gift, and we can be of highest service when we practice self-care in individual and communal ways as an act of decolonizing and reclaiming healing justice. This also allows us to model for others what dedication to purpose rooted in a commitment to wellness and healthy power can look like. As we serve, we many encounter others in extreme distress, pain, and powerlessness, and we may also be confused about how to provide support in the right ways and with healthy boundaries when they are needed. Join us to learn about various energetic practices that can allow us to make a positive impact for others and ourselves, from a place of self-care, awareness, energetic clarity, presence and power.
Optional: Participants are encouraged to bring an item they would like to place on the community altar during our time together.
SUGGESTED LOVE OFFERING: $10 (No one will be turned away due to lack of funds).
