Zachary Hutchinson (b. 1991) Not Telling! is a show of all new work consisting of sculpture, photography, video and (maybe) some drawings… Hutchinson comes to art through costume making, theater, video making and an obsessive attention to image and transgressive affect. Hutchinson’s work uses queerness as resistance to capitalism through toys and fashion. She came to this new work from endless hours of searching Ebay for mid ‘80s to 90s crafty sewing patterns and the lived experience of, as she states: an inherent queer body. Hutchinson continues: “From the positioning of my queer body against ruffly domestic craft world I’ve found a liminal space of uncomfortable domesticity. What hides behind the gathers and ribbons?” We look forward to what may be revealed.
Hutchinson received a BFA from SAIC and a MFA at UIC. She has shown work in Montreal, Mexico City, San Francisco CA, NYC, Los Angeles, Portland OR, Austin TX, Berlin Germany, Athens Greece, Glasgow United Kingdom, Iceland, Venice, and extensively in Chicago.
