Poets for Puerto Rico: Chicago
@ Roberto Clemente Community Academy
1147 N Western Ave, Chicago, IL 60622
Opening Tuesday, April 17th, from 5:30PM - 9PM
Join us in this Poets for Puerto Rico: Chicago event to raise consciousness and raise funds for Institute for Socio-Ecological Research (ISER Caribe). ISER were some of the first people working on the West Coast of Puerto Rico to open roads and set up water filtration systems after Hurricane María, before even government agencies reached the region. The have expanded their reconstruction efforts to assist communities in Jayuya and fishermen in Vieques. All donations raised this evening will go directly to ISER in support of their work with communities and individuals most affected by the hurricane. Your donation will help to build a sustainable and resilient Puerto Rico.
Poets for Puerto Rico was created by Willie Perdomo, Noel Quiñones, and Denice Frohman. It has raised thousands of dollars for grassroots relief efforts and raised consciousness about the ongoing political, economic, and environmental disasters on the island. There have been Poets for Puerto Rico readings at Poets House, The Bronx Museum, and in Philadelphia. Others are being planned across the country. We hope you join us and over twenty poets and artists on April 17.
