ABOUT THE SHOW:
DYMAXION TRAJECTORIES
Curated by Jeremy Bolen and Andrew Rafacz
Musical Performance by Melina Ausikaitis
Dymaxion Trajectories presents dynamic new and recent works by Melina Ausikaitis, Daniel Baird, David Berman, Zachary Buchner, Ken Ellis, Nina Katchadourian, Jenny Kendler, Ryan Pierce, Faheem Majeed, Sonja Thomsen, Andrew Yang, and Pinar Yoldas. The exhibition aims to identify contemporary works that extend and converse with the ideas set forth by architect, systems theorist and futurist Buckminster Fuller. Each artist included in this exhibition has a practice that is in dialogue with the utopian, cross-disciplinary models and inventions that Fuller proposed for a possible, spectacular future.
Fuller called himself a “comprehensive, anticipatory design scientist”-or comprehensivist-and believed that his calling was to innovate in such a way as to benefit the greatest number of people using the least amount of resources. As Fuller said “(his) objective (is) humanity’s comprehensive success in the universe.”
Dymaxion Trajectories gathers paintings, drawings, photographs, textile works, sculpture and installation by artists that suggest and implement unrealized and underutilized modes of progress, potential and impossible futures that rally against preconceived notions of progress and more propagandistic initiatives.
Working in a number of mediums and coming from a variety of creative backgrounds, the artists included in this exhibition are connected through a desire to investigate speculative futures and a hopefulness to invigorate human progress.
Curated by artist and educator Jeremy Bolen and gallerist Andrew Rafacz, it will be presented at Soccer Club Club, an alternative model exhibition space owned and operated by the venerated record label Drag City. The exhibition will open with an artists’ reception on February 24, 2018 and continues through April 6, 2018.
