The ways in which we try to understand nature are very curious. A reproducing plant is called a parent; a pair of cacti, displayed intimately next to each other, become lovers. With a selection of installations, Chin hopes to draw an attention to the peculiarities in how we interpret and appreciate the natural world –– of how we anthropomorphize, hypothesize, abstract and create stories in order to form knowledge about the non-human.

Phoebe Chin, b. 1996, was born and raised in Singapore, and is currently pursuing her BFA at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
