ART SHOPPE POP UP
@ Chicago Athletic Association Hotel
12 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60603
Opening Friday, November 3rd, from 6PM - 9PM
The Chicago Athletic Association hotel—in partnership with Johalla Projects and Victoria Press—is proud to present the grand opening of ART SHOPPE, a temporary pop-up art shop located in the Chicago Athletic Association hotel.
ART SHOPPE is an exciting new platform for expanding your art book library, acquiring accessibly priced artworks, and feeling the pulse of contemporary art discourse in one cohesive space. Art and literature are long-standing collaborators, with artists pushing the boundaries of their work into book form and writers utilizing the power of words to consider art throughout history.
ART SHOPPE celebrates that grand partnership and offers a commercial space for literary and artistic immersion. The temporary pop-up shop is filled with zines, exhibition catalogues, books, and artists’ books alongside editioned prints, original artwork, records, and ceramics. Installations by innovative artists Hidden Folk and Stephen Eichhorn are interspersed throughout the shop space with floral sculptures from Hidden Folk available for purchase.
Johalla Projects is a proud partner of the Chicago Art Book Fair (CABF), hosted by the Chicago Athletic Association hotel, and ART SHOPPE is made possible by CABF’s support towards creating a pop-up gallery and shop. To celebrate this collaboration, CABF curated a special selection of books and artworks that will be on display in the gallery. ART SHOPPE also bring books from progressive arts organizations and galleries across Chicago and New York into one space. Participating organizations include Corbett vs. Dempsey, LVL3, Candor Arts, The D-o-n-u-t Shop, and Anton Kern Gallery, among others. Records from the musical expertise of Reckless Records are also available throughout the duration of the pop-up space. Stay tuned for more information on the Chicago Art Book Fair, which opens November 16, 2017.
In collaboration with Johalla Projects, ART SHOPPE will also include a “gallery wall” dedicated to exhibiting artists from the Johalla Projects’ exhibition program. In this spirit, Marzena Abrahamik, Heather Gabel and Clay Hickson will be the first artists featured. Each month new artists are exhibited, offering an evolving space for viewing contemporary art. At ART SHOPPE, interact with artworks, publications, and editions that engage your curiosity and your interests at your budget. Stand in the center of Chicago’s art community at ART SHOPPE, which is now open. Join the organizers, artists, and patrons for an opening event on November 3 from 6-9pm. Drinks served by Land and Sea Dept with Hopewell Brewing Company!
Hours for Art Shoppe are:
Tuesday – Saturday: 10am – 6pm
Sunday: 10am – 4pm
Monday: closed
