Seeking a way to announce the emerging Arts District, galleries and building owners, in partnership with the Oak Park Arts Council, inaugurated Art on Harrison in 1995. Conceived of as an informal Friday evening gallery walk, the event has continued each year since its inception, expanding to include entertainment and performances at participating galleries. Art on Harrison is a great opportunity to see what the area has to offer in a convivial atmosphere, a celebration of what the creative spirits of this community have accomplished. 2017’s Art on Harrison will be held the evening of Friday, October 20th from 6 – 9 pm and on Saturday, October 21st from noon – 6 pm. The theme of this year’s event is Find Yourself… In the Arts District. Find Yourself… Painting, Dining, Meditating, Gallery Hopping, Theater Going, Shopping, Making Music…

At Black Moon Gallery, Find Yourself… Celebrating a new Oak Park Arts District Gallery’s Opening! The artist collective hosts its first show in its new space. Welcome them on Friday evening from 7 – 10 pm or on Saturday from 11 am – 10 pm. Artists represented are: Ann Pasteur, Ashley Fairley, Joe Giron, Michael Trickle, Paul Demers, Ryan Arruda, Simon Lamb and Stephen Rollick. 17 Harrison

At Expressions Graphics, Find Yourself… Printmaking. Instructor Janet Schill will lead students of all levels in an exploration of Fall Colors through Watercolor Monotypes. She says, “This is a wonderful time of year to explore fall colors, and what a fun way to do it!” To class, bring an 8 1/2 x 11 image (or smaller) or choose from one provided for you. Students will start off by learning to use watercolors on a mylar plate and then transfer their images to rag paper using EG’s etching press. This workshop runs Saturday from 1 – 4 pm. At Art Gecko, Find yourself … Creating with artistic rubber stamps. Art Gecko will host a huge trunk show sale featuring hundreds of new and used artistic rubber stamps. Rubber stamps are easy and fun tools to use for adults and children to create greeting cards, signs, stickers, wrapping paper, posters and even frame-worthy art. The art and craft possibilities are endless! Most are wood mounted stamps and images include alphabet sets, phrases, holiday, animals, people, floral, fauna, celestial, architectural, abstract and quirky items. At Dancing Krow Studio, Find Yourself… Distracting, Deceiving, Distorting. The artist cooperative hosts its October exhibition, Smoke and Mirrors. Guests are encouraged to come in full costume to the show. On Friday night, the Ukulele Club of Oak Park conducts its monthly show. From 6:30 – 9 pm. 43 Harrison

At Studio 144 Boutique, Find Yourself… Expressing Yourself! It’s Scary, It’s Creepy, It’s Spooky, It’s Crawly, It’s craft time with the kids at Studio 144! Head to the boutique for its fun Halloween craft project on Saturday from 12-4. Projects start at $10 and will include wood board or canvas board and a vinyl Halloween expression of your choice. At Bead in Hand, Find Yourself… Reflecting on the Past and Present. The jewelry design studio hosts a special trunk show which includes glass beads and pendants created by Carol Musial, a glass artist and owner of Jems for Jackie. The beads are made with multiple layers of brilliant hand cut dichroic glass, designed to perfection by kiln firing and the cold working of each piece. Find yourself reflecting the vibrant colors of beautiful dichroic glass beads and pendants ready to become one of a kind necklaces with the addition of chain, cord or beads. Visitors can keep their creative juices flowing with a Day of the Dead Drop-In Workshop. Reflect on your loved ones who are no longer present by making a pair of earrings or a larger dangle using carved skull beads and a variety of others to wear or to display during the upcoming holiday. $10 per workshop item includes pre-selected materials. At Nature Yoga Sanctuary, Find Yourself… Celebrating! Stop by Nature Yoga Sanctuary on Saturday, October 21st from 12 – 6 pm to celebrate the brand new space. At Gallery PINK, Find Yourself… Witnessing inner space – outer space. Galen Garapolo, Jackie Lakely, Kelly Donahugh and Mary Jo Parker O’Hearn write in their show statement, “Every artist needs, and deserves, support and comfort to make room for exploration to create art that comes from their soul. This group has given that space to each of us and it has become our sanctuary. We are fortunate and grateful that this group evolved into strong relationships. At Buzz Cafe, Find Yourself… in Your Very Own Chair! The neighborhood favorite hosts its annual chair painting event on Saturday. Pull one up, paint it and visit it all year long! Post it too- make sure to get your photo taken with your one of a kind creation. The evening before, the cafe hosts Burgers, Beers and Bands. BYOB plus October’s Local Artist Spotlight!
