Jennifer Cronin: Customer Service
@ The Bagelers
2461 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago, IL60614
Opening Saturday, August 12th, from 3PM - 5PM
On view through Saturday, September 2nd
Chicago-based visual artist, Jennifer Cronin, is partnering with The Bagelers Coffeehouse in a unique solo art exhibition featuring a series of paintings entitled “Customer Service.” These wistful portraits depict customer service workers situated beneath lush, illusory imagery that is reminiscent of a daydream. Amidst the backdrop of the buzzing coffeehouse, the pensive figures in these paintings appear to be right at home.
“These paintings reflect the beauty of our dreams and aspirations, and the relentless hope and optimism that we all hold amidst setbacks and frustrations. These images juxtapose worn-down service workers with images that represent thoughts, escapes, fantasies, or illustrations of who they are and what actually matters to them. These portraits put the customer service worker on a pedestal that unfortunately isn’t often there in real life, transforming the hardened service worker into a cherished object and showing that there is often more than meets the eye. It is about the beauty that exists in the human mind, and the persistence of the human spirit.” – Cronin
Sip a latte, ponder these paintings, and join the artist for a casual opening reception Saturday, August 12th from 3:00 – 5:00pm. The show will be on view through September 3rd, 2017.
