Iced Bodies: Ice Music for Chicago
@ The Arts Club of Chicago
201 E Ontario St, Chicago, IL 60611
Opening Saturday, August 12th, from 11AM - 3PM
In 1972, artist Jim McWilliams devised a piece for cellist Charlotte Moorman called Ice Music for London. Moorman, nude, “played” a cello-shaped ice sculpture with a plexiglass “bow” for multiple hours. On the 45th anniversary of the original work, Seth Parker Woods and Spencer Topel readdress McWilliams’ concept with an immersive experience. Woods, in a wetsuit, will play an obsidian Ice Cello. As it melts, the amplified sounds of dripping water and falling ice fill the space. Come and go as you please from 11am to 3pm as Woods performs this epic work in its first major realization in 19 years.
