Edward M. Gómez: Investigating Unreal Realms

In response to Intuit’s current exhibition Unreal Realms, art critic and author Edward Gómez will examine what is meant by an artist’s “vision.” How can or do we discern what a particular artist’s vision might be, and why has this notion played such an important role in the history of research and collecting in the art brut/outsider art field? How do the four artists (Adolf Wölfli, A. G. Rizzoli, Ken Grimes and Charles A. A. Dellschau) whose works are included alongside Henry Darger in the exhibit offer ample and vivid evidence of each one’s respective artistic vision and broader worldview? What else does each of these artist’s body of work express?
