Sheila Pepe: Common Sense
@ He said, She said
216 N Harvey Ave, Oak Park, IL 60302
Opening Saturday, April 9th, from 6PM - 8PM
On view through Saturday, May 14th
An ongoing installation performance that Brooklyn-based Sheila Pepe calls “practicing for the end of ephemera.” Previously performed at CAHM in Houston, TX; at Testsite/Fluent-Colab in Austin, TX; Artisterium 3, Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia; and at Carroll and Sons in Boston, MA, Pepe’s installation is a large-scale special crochet drawing–informed by compositional ideas of mid-20th Century abstraction and late 20th century notions of construction (including de-). Audience-turned participants can dismantle and unravel so as to use the art as raw material in order to make their own useful things: scarves, hats, socks, etc.
