Expectations: A Feminist Video Screening
The artists featured in Expectations transgress the conventional expectations of femininity, as well as the ways in which they are expected to be desirable to others. Through commentary on standards of beauty, body, race, and sexuality, these works provide a fluidity between what we refer to as appropriate and inappropriate displays of femininity. The videos utilize abjection, stereotypes, and appropriation to embrace an individual representation of gender that breaks the confines of our normative roles.
