For CONSERVER, The Franklin will be transformed into an architectural retelling of Chicago’s botanical conservatories. The maintenance involved in the propagation of their fictions is accepted and explored. Plant clippings produced from maintaining the conservatories have been scavenged and reanimated. In addition, CONSERVER therapeutically re-calibrates bodies to be better suited for an eternal life undead.

C.Smith has exhibited at Mesa Project Space in Portland, OR, as well as Antena, Eastern Expansion, and The Franklin in Chicago, IL. He ran +medicine cabinet, Terraformer, Sofa King, Second Bedroom Project Space with Irene Perez, and currently runs The Opgenorth in Champaign, IL. He is currently an MFA candidate at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

As a gesture to CONSERVER, a Chicago botanical reconstruction by C. Smith in the Franklin gazebo, your evening’s attire shall emanate modulations or oscillations. If worn by proxy, then you shall perform as
valet in the most exemplary fashion.

This evening’s pretext is the inauguration of your exposition cycle for the Spring. At a pinnacle moment, between 9:45 and 10:00 p.m., you (or your proxy) will enact a transition. The cycle will thus be initiated,
and perhaps instantiated forthwith.

The [ar]rhythmic cycle, consisting of specimens or manifestations, shall either enjoy a select audience, or be accountable to a code of obscurity. It must, without fail, conclude on and no later than the
first of May.

EC Brown is an artist and exhibition organizer, living and working in Chicago. With his wife Catie Olson he have run the Floor Length and Tux exhibition series since 2009.
