Ailbhe Murphy and Ciaran Smyth: Missing Titles Chicago (Artist Lecture)
@ Comfort Station
Comfort Station, 2579 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Opening Sunday, August 23rd, from 12PM - 1PM
We are proud to present Ailbhe Murphy and Ciaran Smyth of Vagabond Reviews as our next speakers for the Comfort Society series of talks sponsored by Intelligentsia Coffee.
Vagabond Reviews is a Dublin-based interdisciplinary platform combining socially engaged art and research practice. As artists and researchers, Murphy and Smyth are interested in engaging broader publics in alternative forms of cultural participation and knowledge production. While in Chicago, they hope to engage with a wide variety of researchers, artists and practitioners around topics including architecture, urban planning, socially engaged art and others avenues of exploration that critically consider the landscape of Chicago.
Their residency project, ‘Scientia Civitatis: Missing Titles Chicago’, invites practitioners from within the field of social practice, architecture, urban planning and beyond to contribute a title of a book yet to be written about the city. The title should be needed, even urgent, but unwritten. It can be practical, but even better provocative, revolutionary or otherwise immoderate in its ambition for understanding and transforming the city.
Presented loosely as ‘findings’ towards the close of their residency, with ‘Missing Titles Chicago’ Vagabond Reviews seek to create a temporary library that offers a ‘diagnostic snapshot’ of Chicago through the prism of its unwritten imaginary. At Comfort Station the artists will discuss their work and ‘Missing Titles’ in particular.
Comfort Society is a series of talks on anything from the useful to the unexpected. Talks take place at Comfort Station on Sundays at noon and coffee is served.
Free.
