Cassie Hamrick: Sharing the Stories of the Elders
@ Chicago Art Department East
1932 S. Halsted St., #100, Chicago IL
Opening Friday, June 13th, from 6PM - 10PM
On view through Friday, July 4th
Resident artist Cassie Hamrick makes her solo debut at Chicago Art Department on Friday, June 13th with Sharing the Stories of the Elders, an autoethnographic installation of quilted landscapes.
Repurposing fabric from her childhood home in Southern Appalachia, Hamrick’s work surveys concepts of memory, heritage, and craft through a socially critical lens. “Country chic” patterns reveal intersecting histories of capitalist, industrial, racial, and gender violence. Examining loving, nostalgic, and disturbing senses of truth and home, Sharing the Stories of the Elders uncovers ethereal stories of nation and childhood.
Sharing the Stories of the Elders opens at Chicago Art Department on Friday, June 13th from 6-10PM. Additional viewings may be scheduled prior to July 4th by contacting the artist: cassie@chicagoartdepartment.org. Chicago Art Department is located at 1932 S. Halsted St., #100, Chicago, IL 60608.
