Apr 28th 2014

Marwen presents artist Faheem Majeed as part of its Verve: Guest Artists Series on Monday, April 28, from 6:00 – 7:00pm at Marwen. Majeed will discuss his creative and career paths and how art can encourage public dialogue and social change.

“My perspective on the work I create and the role I play has evolved over time,” says Majeed. “I now view my work well beyond object making. It is an approach much more grounded in considering the impact and developing the object that plays its part in a larger scheme of change.”

Majeed is the Associate Director and a faculty member of University of Illinois at Chicago’s School of Art & Art History, and has served as Executive Director and Curator for the South Side Community Arts Center, was the 2012 Artist in Residence for the University of Chicago’s Arts in Public Life Initiative, and is involved with arts and cultural institutions throughout Chicago. He received his BFA from Howard University and MFA from UIC.

The event is free and open to the public. It will be held at Marwen, 833 North Orleans Street, Chicago, IL 60610.

About Verve
Verve was developed, designed, and created by the 2011-12 team of Marwen Teaching Fellows. Originally an online collective that connects and engages teaching artists throughout the community, Verve now includes a live Guest Artist Series to foster dialogue among students, parents, educators, collectors, and practicing artists.
