Shanta, a Chicago native who has been featured at the National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough, Tennessee, will share “Stories & Songs of African People,” including stories about the relationships between animals and humans. Shanta’s performances feature stories, poetry, chants, and instrumentation. Melding African folktales with contemporary African-American perspectives, her stories are about empowerment, peace, healing, and self-discovery. Audiences of all ages respond to the warmth, humor, and drama of Shanta’s dynamic performances.
